ENDE | (8-22) Djawab Musa: "Tidak baiklah berbuat begitu; sebab kurban, jang kami persembahkan kepada Jahwe Allah kami adalah suatu kekedjian bagi orang-orang Mesir. Djika kami mempersembahkan kurban jang dalam pandangan orang-orang Mesir suatu kekedjian, tidakkah mereka akan meradjam kami? |
FAYH | Musa menjawab, "Tidak mungkin! Orang-orang Mesir membenci kurban persembahan kami kepada Allah. Apabila kami melakukannya di depan mata mereka, maka mereka akan melempari kami dengan batu.

Bahwa sesungguhnya jikalau kiranya kami mengorbankan barang yang kebencian orang Mesir di hadapan matanya, bukankah mereka itu kelak melontari kami dengan batu? |

AV# | And Moses <04872> said <0559> (8799), It is not meet <03559> (8737) so to do <06213> (8800); for <02005> we shall sacrifice <02076> (8799) the abomination <08441> of the Egyptians <04714> to the LORD <03068> our God <0430>: lo, shall we sacrifice <02076> (8799) the abomination <08441> of the Egyptians <04714> before their eyes <05869>, and will they not stone <05619> (8799) us? |
BBE | And Moses said, It is not right to do so; for we make our offerings of that to which the Egyptians give worship; and if we do so before their eyes, certainly we will be stoned. |
MESSAGE | Moses said, "That would not be wise. What we sacrifice to our GOD would give great offense to Egyptians. If we openly sacrifice what is so deeply offensive to Egyptians, they'll kill us. |
NKJV | And Moses said, "It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us? |

RWEBSTR | And Moses said, It is not proper so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? |
GWV | Moses replied, "It wouldn't be right to do that. The sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God are disgusting to Egyptians. If they see us offer sacrifices that they consider disgusting, won't they stone us to death? |
NET | But Moses said, “That would not be the right thing to do,* for the sacrifices we make* to the Lord our God would be an abomination* to the Egyptians.* If we make sacrifices that are an abomination to the Egyptians right before their eyes,* will they not stone us?* |
NET | 8:26 But Moses said, “That would not be the right thing to do,556 tn The clause is a little unusual in its formation. The form נָכוֹן (nakhon) is the Niphal participle from כּוּן (kun), which usually means “firm, fixed, steadfast,” but here it has a rare meaning of “right, fitting, appropriate.” It functions in the sentence as the predicate adjective, because the infinitive לַעֲשּׂוֹת (la’asot) is the subject – “to do so is not right.” for the sacrifices we make557 tn This translation has been smoothed out to capture the sense. The text literally says, “for the abomination of Egypt we will sacrifice to Yahweh our God.” In other words, the animals that Israel would sacrifice were sacred to Egypt, and sacrificing them would have been abhorrent to the Egyptians. to the Lord> our God would be an abomination558 tn An “abomination” is something that is off-limits, something that is tabu. It could be translated “detestable” or “loathsome.” to the Egyptians.559 sn U. Cassuto (Exodus, 109) says there are two ways to understand “the abomination of the Egyptians.” One is that the sacrifice of the sacred animals would appear an abominable thing in the eyes of the Egyptians, and the other is that the word “abomination” could be a derogatory term for idols – we sacrifice what is an Egyptian idol. So that is why he says if they did this the Egyptians would stone them. If we make sacrifices that are an abomination to the Egyptians right before their eyes,560 tn Heb “if we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians [or “of Egypt”] before their eyes.” will they not stone us?561 tn The interrogative clause has no particle to indicate it is a question, but it is connected with the conjunction to the preceding clause, and the meaning of these clauses indicate it is a question (GKC 473 §150.a).
